At Kaz, we believe in creating homes that foster lasting memories. What better way to do that than with a fun-filled evening around a crackling campfire? And what makes a campfire even better? Delicious, fire-cooked treats made with the whole family!
We’ve put together a few easy campfire recipes that are perfect for getting your kids involved in the cooking process. These recipes are simple enough for little hands to help with, and the campfire setting adds a touch of magic to the whole experience.
Campfire Cones (Sweet or Savory)
These are endlessly customizable and a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.
- Prep at home: Use aluminum foil to create your own cones using pre-rolled pizza dough (store-bought works great). Gather a variety of chopped ingredients like cheese, pepperoni, veggies, marshmallows, chocolate chips, and fruit.
- Campfire fun: Let the kids help fill the cones with their favorite sweet or savory toppings. Wrap the open end of the cone in foil to create a seal. Prop the cones around the campfire embers to cook until warm and melty.
S’mores Nachos
A fun take on a dinner dish!
- Prep at home: Packaged graham crackers, chocolate bars, marshmallows, and your favorite sweet “nacho” toppings like chopped peanuts, pretzels, and dried fruit.
- Campfire fun: Toast the graham crackers over the fire until slightly golden brown. Layer them on a plate and top with squares of chocolate and mini marshmallows. Roast larger marshmallows over the fire until golden brown and add to the top of your nacho base. Finish with your favorite dessert nacho toppings and enjoy!
Pro tip: be sure to pack lots of napkins or moist towelettes as this delicious dish gets messy!
Campfire Popcorn
A classic with a twist!
- Prep at home: Invest in a long-handled popcorn popper specifically designed for campfires. You can also use a cast iron Dutch oven with a tight-fitting lid. Pre-measure popcorn kernels and a little bit of oil. We recommend 2-3 tablespoons of oil per ½ of unpopped kernels.
- Campfire fun: Hold the popcorn popper over the fire, shaking it constantly to prevent burning. When the popping slows, remove it from the heat and enjoy! Drizzle with melted butter, olive oil, or a sprinkle of parmesan cheese for extra flavor.
Safety Tips:
- Always supervise children closely around a campfire.
- Keep a bucket of water or sand nearby to extinguish any flare-ups.
- Use long-handled utensils for cooking over the fire.
These are just a few ideas to get you started. With a little creativity, you can come up with countless campfire recipes that your whole family will love!
